Mission Statement

The Montrose Recreation District’s purpose is to provide, manage and maintain quality recreational facilities, programs and services, which will enhance the learning, leisure and recreation opportunities that promote a healthy community.

The Montrose Recreation District was formed in 1956 with the goal of providing summer swimming for the local community.  The community pool was realized in 1957, and was located on South 12th Street here in Montrose.  Beginning in the 1970’s, local citizens desired the District to expand and offer recreation programs for the community.  With those sports programs brought the need for full time staff, the Recreation District has continued to grow and meet an ever increasing demand for local programs.  These programs include swimming at the Aquatics Center, all season recreation programs for youth and adult, and an array of recreation programs for Senior Citizens.

The Aquatic Center was built in 1987 at a cost of $1.7 million.  Current annual usage over 64,000 patron visits in 2010.   The 17,000 square foot complex has four separate pools to meet community needs.  In 2009 the District constructed an addition onto the Aquatics Center that added two multi purpose rooms and additional office space for the District.  The Center provides year around swimming from Water Aerobic exercises for Seniors to competitive swimming.  The Recreation District publishes an activity guide in fall and spring that is mailed to District homes.
