The Montrose area is a hive of activity throughout the year. Our local crown jewel is the Aquatic Center which provides swimming, water aerobics, court and outdoor sports for any age group. Montrose’s main attraction is the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, just 15 miles east of Montrose. The Park is noted for its incredible views of the chasm of the Gunnison River. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is a must see activity for the local and visitor to our area. Montrose serves as the beginning for many of the Western Slopes scenic drives, from the San Juan Mountains to the south and historic mining towns, the small towns and wineries of the famed North Fork Valley, to the canyon country further west, Montrose is your base camp for adventure.
Your outdoor activities begin here in Montrose. We offer excellent hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting, and just plain relaxing in the national forests, wilderness areas, and national conservation areas within a short driving distance of Montrose. Coupled with mild winters and warm summer days, Montrose is a golfers paradise with three local courses in town and access to two additional courses in Delta County. Montrose is activity central for locals and visitors to the Western Slope of Colorado.
